The work makes reference to the weather-beaten, eroded two-toned buildings in the Old Stone Town of Zanzibar, Tanzania where the artist spent time traveling in the early '90's. The work not only invites the viewer to reflect on something absent, covered up, behind the decaying surface - but it also aims to capture evidence of the activity that left the scars on the walls and on the memory of a people still emerging from colonialism.

Materials: Mixed media (plaster, concrete glue, paint, shellack, wallpaper, burned media, etc) on stretched canvass.
